Fănuș Neagu, Frumoșii nebuni ai marilor orașe (The beautiful madmen of the great cities)

Magic realism is a style in Romanian prose of the postwar and contemporary period. Often inspired by but not entirely a derivative of Latin American magic realism, Romanian magic realism often shares borders with fantastic prose (see Mircea Eliade) and often finds a source of inspiration in folklore. From George Bălăiță and especially Ștefan Agopian onwards, magic realism has steadily progressed from neomodernism to postmodernism. Mircea Cărtărescu can also be considered a "magic realist".
